    SURFBOARDS LA JOLLA

Barry(Bear) and Nick Mirandon hold a special place in La Jolla history but also in surfboard design. Their space age "Twin Pin" design was as radical as any board in any era. With DEEP concaves, a split Swallow tail and twin hatchet fins, These resembled a spacecraft more than a wave riding vehicle.

They were witness to Al Nelsons Tiny Balsa twin-fin as well as Bob Simmons twin keels. Those boards inspired them to make their own version which was for the heavy La Jolla reefs. Their design was an underground sensation from the Cliffs to Blacks. Mentors like Carl Ekstom guided them and they in-turn became ispiration for future legends like Rusty Priesendorfer.

"Raised at WindanSea during the balsa era of the 1950s and mentored by the likes of Al Nelson, Carl Ekstrom, and Mike Diffenderfer, the Mirandons learned early on that experimentation was often more rewarding than following the status quo."
