Don is one of Surfings great documentarians. He’s shot some of Californias finest moments and his work has been published for decades in Surfer, Surfing and the Surfers Journal. He’s recently made these prints available to us and if you’ve spent anytime in San Diego, you have witnessed some amazing moments along the La Jolla coastline.

“This overview of huge waves breaking out past La Jolla’s iconic La Valencia Hotel was captured on a rainy 2010 winter day after veteran surf photographer Don Balch slogged down a muddy hillside to get this unusual angle of an extremely rare sight during a maxing swell event.
A number of longtime La Jolla residents commented they had never before seen a view like this of big surf off their coast when it was first published on the front page of the local newspaper.
