In the winter of 1998, Skip Frye was enjoying his 40th year of surfing. Bob Merson was painting and selling his art in surf shops up and down the coast including Harry’s. Skip’s wife, Donna, commissioned Bob to do a painting to give to Skip in celebration of Skip’s 40 years of surfing.
The inspiration for the painting was a photo of Skip at Rincon that Donna had taken a few years earlier. Donna requested the addition of a pelican gliding on the air wave in front of Skip. The painting was completed and a limited edition of 250 prints and 40 artist proofs were made. All were signed and numbered by Bob and Skip.
Bob placed an advertisement for the prints in Longboard Magazine. The add ran in the January 2000 issue and was very successful. Close to 200 of the prints and 23 of the artist proofs were sold. Rather than placing another add Bob packed up the remaining prints and put them away for another day and time.
Almost 25 years later, that day and time is now.
We have the very last 17 artist proofs available and ready for the appreciation of another generation. ONLY available here at The Surfboard Rack.
