8' Rusty Hawaiian Gun\

Rusty is known for making some of the finest surfboards of all-time. In particular, Rustys guns have been very desirable to top-pros year in and year out. 

Mark Occhilupo won the 1984/85 Pipeline Masters riding a Rusty gun very similar to this one. This one came to Bob Merson from a friend and while it was used, it was in very nice condition. 

Bob did a very mild restoration and added some great color accents and a gloss coat to freshen up this 40 year old dream board. If you're serious about big slabby waves or just need a serious Winter gun, this ones for you.

“I love the shape of boards built to handle large waves. Streamlined missiles designed by the shaper for one purpose. They are the F1 cars of surfboards. There are no non-essential bells and whistles, only the elements needed to successfully negotiate huge mountains of water.”

“The other aspect that I appreciate about these boards is their limited production. The farther back you go the rarer they become. This one by Rusty was shaped in the late 1980’s. Think about the thousands of boards that came out of the Rusty factory during the late 80’s. How many were shaped specifically to ride big waves? Even though Rusty has always had a reputation for designing very capable guns, the big wave crew has always been a small segment of the surf industry.”

“This example was in very good condition for it’s age and considering the type of waves that it had ridden (many don’t make it to retirement in one piece). Lots of pressure dents but no major issues beyond a loose side bite. The board was plain with no color except for the logos. I felt it was calling for something to enhance the sleek efficient shape. I pulled the colors from the logo, sprayed a simple fade and topped it off with pin lines. Another one Restoked!”
