I shouldn’t have to tell you anything about Phil Edwards because every surfer worth his salt knows the significance of his contributions to surfing. Phil was the first pro surfer and pro skateboarder with models that hit the market with his endorsement.
His unmatched style was the inspiration for Mike Hynson and Skip Frye who sewed patches onto their trunks with the bold P.O.P.E. an acronym for Protege of Phil Edwards. They turned out to be pretty influential as well.
Phil disappeared from the magazines and public life decades ago but is still living in Capo Beach doing his thing. This batch of Edwards boards is the last he did out of the Hobie factory and it is very much a piece of surfing history. It’s been ridden and reports are it went great. So hang it, surf it or gift it to a friend who understands its significance. Phil was the source material for all of modern surfboard design.
